An ALU (Arithmetic and Logic Unit) is used in CPU (central processing unit) to perform arithmetic and logical operations. The Arithmetic operations performed by an ALU are addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Apart from these operations, it can output complement of a number, compare two number (less than or greater than), rotates and shift the bits right or left, increment or decrement of a number.
