Throughput

Throughput Definition

The numbers of instructions executed per second is known as the throughput of the microprocessor. Instruction per second is measure of computer’ speed. The processing speed of a microprocessor is measured in numbers of instructions executed per second and is generally expressed as MIPS ( Millions of instructions per Second). The floating point performance of a processor is measured in MFLOPS (Millions of floating-point instructions per second). The MIPS rating gives the processor’s performance for Integer operations white the MFLOPS rating gives the CPU performance floating (decimal point) mathematical operations.

Throughput in the context of communication networks is the rate of successful message over a communication channel. Throughput is measured in bits per seconds (bits/s or bps) and in data packets per second (p/s or PPS).
